    Community Policing – PCSO Howard Pack C9600 – Thames Valley Police

    Xmas should be an occasion to spend quality time with and exchange gifts with your loved ones and friends, keeping in mind that it’s 100 years ago since the start of ‘World War 1’ I wonder how our Troops coped in the trenches on the Western front in France with very little Peace, Goodwill or ‘Presents’ to comfort them.

    Whoever you buy Xmas Presents for you want to make sure your loved ones and friends ‘get’ them and ‘enjoy’ them and they are not lost to Criminals, so, please follow our Crime Prevention advice;

    1. Light up the night against crime at Christmas.

    As it gets darker earlier, use a timer switch to ensure your lights come on when you aren’t at home. Most burglaries happen when a property is empty and leaving a light on is an effective way of deterring burglars.

    2. Keep all valuables out of sight.

    Don’t make your home a target for thieves – keep your doors and windows locked and keep all your valuables and Christmas presents out of sight.

    3. Keep your car safe.

    If you are Christmas shopping, make sure you park in a well lit car park and lock your car. Never leave any valuables in your car, such as mobiles or satellite navigation systems.

    4. Keep yourself safe.

    Personal safety is paramount. If you are going out, make sure you have your keys, money, phone and plans to get home. Make sure someone knows what time you will be back.

    On 25th October 2014 we organised a ‘Day of Action’ in CHILDREY with the aim to get residents to ‘sign up’ for THAMES VALLEY Alert to receive FREE crime alerts and information about where you live. It was a very successful day with 67 out of the 71 residents spoken to joining. If you were one of the 90 or so that weren’t in on the day please send your forms in via the address provided or contact me on 101.

    A big thank you to the CHILDREY Neighbourhood Watch and WANTAGE Neighbourhood Action Group(NAG) who helped us on the day.

    On 04/11/2014 I was called to CHILDREY to deal with an incident involving 2 males who were going ‘door to door’ trying to sell various household goods from holdall bags and being rude to residents when they didn’t buy anything.

    Both males were checked and advised to leave the area…Thank you to the residents who called 101 to let us know about this.

    Please use 101 to report any ‘Non-Urgent’ Crime related matters…Report it so that we know about it.

    If you’d like to receive FREE crime alerts and info about where you live by Email, Phone or Text then please contact me on 101 or when you see me on patrol and I will be happy to ‘sign you up’ alternatively please register at www.thamesvalleyalert.co.uk .
