Over the years Childrey has had many shops and retailers; the history of the current Childrey Stores can be traced back to 1850 when it was set up by Thomas Herman as a general store and later also included a butchers. After World War II Childrey coffee was famous throughout the country as Kenyan coffee was imported and roasted on the site of what is now Dolphin House.
Coffee shop
Our speciality coffee is locally roasted in Oxfordshire and is at the heart of our village store. Good coffee is our passion and is shared by the village and other visitors to the store! We also serve a wide range of teas and hot chocolate with chilli hot chocolate becoming a local favourite. Each morning we bake a range of pastries for a light breakfast and the delicious range of cakes are home baked to Gill’s special recipes.
The coffee shop serves from opening until 15 minutes before closing time each day
We are close to the Ridgeway and welcome walkers and cyclists enjoying the beautiful surroundings, our outdoor seating is particularly popular with walkers, cyclists and dog walkers on dry days and we even supply blankets for when there is a nip in the air and the sun is shining!
